L-Glutathione exists in the body in 2 forms that recycle back and forth, a reduced (or "active") form and an oxidized form. Keeping these forms in balance is extremely important for maintaining health. Our bodies are constantly producing free radicals (uncharged, highly reactive molecules with unpaired electrons). The reduced form of L-glutathione is an antioxidant that protects cells and tissues by scavenging free radicals.† In this process, reduced L-glutathione (also known as GSH) is transformed into its oxidized form (GSSG).
