Vital-Plex® is a long-standing favorite in situations where undesirable microorganisms invade and multiply in the bowel.^† It includes Bifidobacterium lactis blended with Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and B. bifidum. B. lactis is an important colonizing microorganism that produces large amounts of formate which favors beneficial microbiota.^† It has profound effects on the immune system enhancing white blood cell activities as well as increasing numbers of total, helper, and activated T cells.^† It has activity against rotavirus, a significant cause of diarrhea in infants and young children, and has been found to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in child daycare centers. The probiotic species in Vital-Plex® synergistically produce butyrate, acetate, lactate, and formate, lowering the pH of intestinal contents and inhibiting the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeast.^† Vital-Plex® probiotics produce B vitamins and enhance nutrient and mineral absorption.
